For the pizza crust, you’ll need:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 3/4 cup warm water
For the pizza sauce, you’ll need:
- 1 can (28 ounces) whole peeled tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
For the toppings, you’ll need:
- 2 cups arugula
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup crumbled goat cheese
- 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
Homemade Pizza Crust
First, let’s make the pizza crust. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well. Add in the olive oil and warm water, and mix until a smooth dough forms. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until it becomes elastic. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit for 30 minutes to rise.
Homemade Pizza Sauce
While the dough is rising, let’s make the pizza sauce. In a blender or food processor, puree the whole peeled tomatoes until smooth. In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add in the minced garlic and saute for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Add in the tomato puree, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir well and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Toppings
Now it’s time to prepare the toppings. Preheat your oven to 450°F. On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer the dough to a baking sheet or pizza stone. Spread the homemade pizza sauce evenly over the dough. Add the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce. Add the halved cherry tomatoes and thinly sliced red onion. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Once the pizza is out of the oven, top it with 2 cups of arugula. Add the crumbled goat cheese on top of the arugula. Drizzle with balsamic glaze.
